Author Interview: Maria T. Lennon + Giveaway

Today I have Maria T. Lennon, author of Watch Out Hollywood and Confessions of a So-Called Middle Child here to answer some of my questions! Stay tuned for an awesome giveaway at the end of the post.

Do you have a favorite theme or genre that you like to write about? Is there a genre that you’ll probably stay away from and why?

I really like realistic fiction. The real world. Dystopian stuff has never been for me. Sadly, my brain is firmly rooted on this planet so I could never write something like that, though I wish I could.

What was the most challenging aspect of writing Watch Out Hollywood?

Trying to show growth in a kid that feels real. It’s two steps forward and one step back. I wanted Charlie to feel like someone kids could relate to.

What’s a typical working day like for you? When and where do you write? Are there daily writing goals you set?

I write when the kids are in school—from 9-2 then hit the market so the fridge is full when they come home and attack it.

Do you have any writing “must haves”?

Just my laptop and a small, relatively quiet space.

What’s next for you? Are you currently working on or have plans for future projects?

Yes. I am very excited about this new young adult book I’ve been working on, called Rich Kid, about a 17-year old whose future is so bright everyone knows he’s destined for greatness. He’s got girls following him, teachers loving him, he’s magnetic, funny, cocky and can do no wrong. Until his father loses all their money. And he is suddenly, sadly, poor. What happens when someone so entitled loses everything that gives him his identity? The story is loosely based on a true story.

Thanks Maria for answering my questions! I cannot wait to read Rich Kid!

I am captivated with this lovely feature which interests me greatly. It was interesting to learn about the author and her writing.

  2. The interview has me pumped to read Rich Kid. Seems like a good plot (and also loosely based on a true story) so that should be cool. Love the covers for the giveaway books.
Thanks for the interview + giveaway!
