Series: 5 Worlds #1
Published by Random House Books for Young Readers on May 2nd 2017
The Five Worlds are on the brink of extinction unless five ancient and mysterious beacons are lit. When war erupts, three unlikely heroes will discover there s more to themselves and more to their worlds than meets the eye. . . .
The clumsiest student at the Sand Dancer Academy, Oona Lee is a fighter with a destiny bigger than she could ever imagine.
A boy from the poorest slums, An Tzu has a surprising gift and a knack for getting out of sticky situations.
Star athlete Jax Amboy is beloved by an entire galaxy, but what good is that when he has no real friends? When these three kids are forced to team up on an epic quest, it will take not one, not two, but 5 WORLDS to contain all the magic and adventure!
5 Worlds is a beautiful graphic novel about a girl who doesn’t seem to be meeting expectations of a sand dancer. Oona has always felt she is not up to par, especially compared with her older sister who would have been the next sand dancer, if she had not run away. Her sister has sent her a letter and wants her to meet her on the day of the ceremony and she does not consider going until the Sand Castle is attacked.
But Oona is not our only character. An Tzu is a charming street waif who helps those in need but is suffering from a disappearing disease. He finds himself with Oona after an attack on a stadium and together they also save a star athlete named Jax who turns out to be different as well.
Overall, the book is about self discovery and believing in yourself. Set in a high fantasy and science fiction feel of a setting, there are 5 different worlds and many different races. I’m looking forward to more interactions with people from the different worlds as the series continues. I love the artwork and the character designs – definitely a visually stunning graphic novel.
An adventureful start to a series about rising above expectations and finding hidden talents.
