"I bought the milk," said my father. "I walked out of the corner shop, and heard a noise like this: T h u m m t h u m m. I looked up and saw a huge silver disc hovering in the air above Marshall Road."

"Hullo," I said to myself. "That's not something you see every day. And then something odd happened."

Find out just how odd things get in this hilarious story of time travel and breakfast cereal, expertly told by Newbery Medalist and bestselling author Neil Gaiman and illustrated by Skottie Young.

Short & Sweet: As a big fan of Gaiman's books, I was looking forward to Fortunately The Milk. A fantastically written chapter book, the father tells the tale of his amazing adventures bringing home the milk from the store. I loved the illustrations and the hilarious tale that ensued a simple task of getting milk from the store. Fortunately The Milk was a story that really transported you into the fantastical adventures of a simple trip home. I love Gaiman's writing and found a quick read in this latest book.

Final Verdict: Fortunately The Milk is a story both adults and children will enjoy. It's short enough with beautiful illustrations and a fun story with lots of fantastical elements.

  1. So glad you liked it! I'm on the waiting list at the library for the audio book. I heard Gaiman is the one that reads it so I can't wait. I listened to him do a reading on his Ocean at the End of the Lane tour and I can't wait!
