The epic conclusion to the USA Today bestselling trilogy.
The horde is coming.
Salvation is surrounded, monsters at the gates, and this time, they're not going away. When Deuce, Fade, Stalker and Tegan set out, the odds are against them. But the odds have been stacked against Deuce from the moment she was born. She might not be a Huntress anymore, but she doesn't run. With her knives in hand and her companions at her side, she will not falter, whether fighting for her life or Fade's love.
Ahead, the battle of a lifetime awaits. Freaks are everywhere, attacking settlements, setting up scouts, perimeters, and patrols. There hasn't been a war like this in centuries, and humans have forgotten how to stand and fight. Unless Deuce can lead them.
This time, however, more than the fate of a single enclave or outpost hangs in the balance. This time, Deuce carries the banner for the survival of all humanity.
Deuce, Fade, Stalker, and the gang are back. And the final battle has begun!
Here we go!
After Outpost, Deuce feels as if it is only a matter of time before all Hell breaks loose. The freaks are showing signs of intelligence… of making a society… of being a true threat. However, living at Soldiers' Pond, behinds its walls, will protect them for a short while longer. It is not a permanent solution. Deuce knows this. The people of the town know this. They need a plan… and they need it fast.
Horde represents everything that the final book in a series should be. Great action. Plenty of discoveries left to uncover. Fantastic character growth. I am seriously in awe with how perfect everything came about in this finale.
Characters and romance
One aspect I have loved since the beginning was how seamlessly the romance blended in. Deuce and Fade have never had the "perfect" relationship. And I have loved them even more so because of this. With freaks around every corner, when your world is a kill or be killed kinda world.. you have to be strong, or face the consequences. Deuce and Fade are probably two of the strongest characters I have ever come across, and that strength both helps and hurts them in the romance department. They are equals. Fine warriors who do want something more from life, but also realize that this is what they do best. With the events of the previous installments leading up to this final showdown, I have to admit, I wasn't too sure how the romance would play out. Spoilers aside… it was damn near perfect. Okay, it was a little cheesy, but it worked SO well. I was 100% happy, and for me, that was all that mattered.
From the very first of Enclave, I have been dying to know what the hell these freaks really were. Are they zombie-type creatures? Are they a science experiment gone bad? I just had to know! With Horde, everything is finally laid out. Did I 100% love / accept the answers? I am not sure. But like the romance and everything else about this series… it all WORKS. All the elements come together beautifully to create a story unlike anything else out there. Seriously, this series has continued to blow my mind time after time after time.
Horde gave me everything, and I mean everything that I wanted in this series finale. A strong female character who has gotten even stronger. A male love interest who can do (almost) no wrong, in my opinion. A fantastic set of secondary characters who add a wonderful depth to the story as a whole. Even if you dislike zombie / mutant / post-apocalyptic type reads, this series is one that simply cannot be overlooked. It is 100% fabulous from the first page of Enclave until the final page of Horde.
