Vlad has to keep his vampire urges under control while dealing with the pressures of middle school. Thirteen-year-old Vladimir Tod really hates junior high. Bullies harass him, the principal is dogging him, and the girl he likes prefers his best friend. Oh, and Vlad has a secret: His mother was human, but his father was a vampire. With no idea of the extent of his powers, Vlad struggles daily with his blood cravings and his enlarged fangs. When a substitute teacher begins to question him a little too closely, Vlad worries that his cover is about to be blown. But then he faces a much bigger problem: He’s being hunted by a vampire killer.

Short & Sweet: I just love Vlad from the first disc of this book (another audiobook read for me). This is a series I've had sitting on my shelf and I figured I'd try it out on audio since it was a nice short one. Vlad is a vampire whose parents died years ago and he must live with his mother's best friend. I love seeing the day to day of Vlad's problems when it comes to being a vampire. Something that at times is not so great. So when a big bad vampire comes looking for him, he's not sure what to do, or what his substitute teacher has to do with all of this and how does he know that Vlad is a vampire? Vlad is an endearing character that most people can relate to and his vampire problems are sometimes the least of his worries.

Final Verdict: I think this is a series I will enjoy reading more of. The audio was pretty good, but I can see reading these in book format as well.
