What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic’s wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic’s highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country’s most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths—until the day June’s brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family’s survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias’s death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

Full of nonstop action, suspense, and romance, this novel is sure to move readers as much as it thrills.

Short & Sweet: I am completely amazed by this book. It's more than just a dystopian novel, it's a well-crafted story told by two characters that are in almost opposite positions. Day is a known criminal to the Republic, but he is doing it to help his family and he never kills someone. June is a prodigy in the military, having scored a perfect score on her exam. When June's brother is murdered, she goes after Day and finds there is more to him than the criminal she has grown to hate. In fact, the truths he knows about the Republic and the military may just change her life forever. I had to make excuses to listen to the audiobook. I cleaned more because I was just so enthralled by this story. I loved both characters and couldn't wait to see how everything would turn out. The plot kept you going and writing from their different viewpoints gave more insight as to what was really going on in the Republic. A twisty type of plot that gives you a little and makes you wonder as the characters do about what really happened.

Final Verdict: A great story and start to a new series. I cannot wait to find out what happens next.

  1. I really loved this one too. Probably my favorite dystopian. I just read Mystic City, and it kind of has the same feel. I think you might like it if you liked Legend.
