Liesl lives in a tiny attic bedroom, locked away by her cruel stepmother. Her only friends are the shadows and the mice, until one night a ghost appears from the darkness. It is Po, who comes from the Other Side. Both Liesl and Po are lonely, but together they are less alone.
That same night, an alchemist's apprentice, Will, bungles an important delivery. He accidentally switches a box containing the most powerful magic in the world with one containing something decidedly less remarkable.
Will's mistake has tremendous consequences for Liesl and Po, and it draws the three of them together on an extraordinary journey.
From New York Times bestselling author Lauren Oliver comes a luminous and magnificent novel that glows with rare magic, ghostly wonders, and a true friendship that lights even the darkest of places.
Short & Sweet: Having loved Oliver's other middle grade novel, I could not wait to pick up Liesl and Po and was lucky enough to find it on audio at my public library. When a ghost appears to Liesl, she suddenly finds herself wanting out of the attic her stepmother has locked her in and with the help of the ghosts and the boy named Will, embarks on an adventure to put her father's soul to rest. I felt that there were fairy tale elements melded together with paranormal and it made for a wonderful mix and a story that kept me listening to the audiobook. Definitely try this one on audiobook, it was well done and really made the story come to life.
Final Verdict: Liesl and Po is a fantastic story that will keep readers turning the page and especially will appeal to lovers of paranormal and fairy tale elements.
