Series: Bloody Jack #8
Published by Harcourt Children's Books on September 13th 2010
Jacky Faber, rich from her exploits diving for Spanish gold, has purchased the Lorelei Lee to carry passengers across the Atlantic. Believing she has been absolved of past sins against the Crown, Jacky docks in London to take on her crew, but is instead arrested and sentenced to life in the newly formed penal colony in Australia.
To add insult to injury, the Lorelei Lee is confiscated to carry Jacky and more than 200 female convicts to populate New South Wales. Not one to give in to self pity, Jacky rallies her sisters to "better" their position--resulting in wild escapades, brushes with danger, and much hilarity. Will Jacky find herself a founding mother of New South Wales, Australia? Not if she has anything to do about it!
Short and Sweet: Jacky is on her way back to Jaimy when destiny intervenes again and she is arrested and sentenced to be shipped off on her own boat as a convict to populate a colony in Australia. Unfortunately, the crew is a happy one with a captain who knows how to have a good time. Of course, her adventure takes a bit of a turn when she abandons ship and becomes the pet of the infamous female Chinese pirate Cheng Shih. Will Jacky ever see Jaimy again? Full of spunk as always, our Jacky perseveres and finds a way to make life better while aboard the Lorelei and again when with the Chinese. I love the insane twists these books take and the interesting characters each one holds. I will be sad whenever this series ends, because Jacky's adventures are full of fun, daring, hilarity and peril!
Final Verdict: Read this series. Read it now. Find it on audio if you can and listen to the beautiful Kathryn Kellgren narrate Jacky's adventures. You won't regret it.
