Book View: Unwind

Book View: Unwind

First of all, I loved the different points of view in Unwind. Seeing the world from different perspectives gave a fuller meaning to everything that was happening. I loved the way the world unwound itself in the story. It throws us right into the drama and then slowly explains why the world is the way it is. There was a ton of action, a hint of romance and a lot of intrigue as to what would happen next. Unwind is the type of book that keeps you reading until the end. I loved the use of music in this book and there are […]

Book View: Every Breath

Book View: Every Breath

Every Breath is a book I got from my Aussie penpal and it took me a little bit to get into the lingo. I loved the characters right off. It screams Sherlock Holmes in a lot of ways. Rachel is a country girl stuck in the city and dealing with adjusting. The closest friend she’s made lives two doors down and is a boy named James Mycroft. He’s a genius and a bit on the edge at times. When a homeless man they know and talk to is murdered, they dive into finding out what happened. I loved both Watts […]

Book View: The Tomb

Book View: The Tomb

Repairman Jack is one of my husband’s favorite series. I’ve been meaning to start reading them for a long time and now I know why he loves them. Full of action, mystery and paranormal elements, I fell in love with Jack’s world. Jack lives under the radar and is a “repairman” of a multitude of problems. His love life has fallen a bit since his ex-girlfriend found out what he actually does for a living. However, Gia calls him because her Aunt-in-Law is missing and she needs his help. Her daughter Vicky loves Jack and I loved the scenes between […]

Book View: The Blood of Olympus

The Blood of Olympus is the last in the series, one that I didn’t think I could love more than Percy Jackson, but I do. I loved seeing the characters grow and the budding romances build up. The last volume has lots of adventure, peril and characterization that really pulls you in. I’m always surprised at the ease in which I can jump back into this world after a year or so after the last book in the series. The dialogue is witty and humorous and I love the unique characters and settings. All lovers of mythology and adventure should […]

Book View: City of the Dead

Book View: City of the Dead

City of the Dead was a whimsical audiobook I tried because I needed something for the car that was only a couple hours long. What I found was that this book was messed up creeptastic. At the beginning of the book, Derek, his brother Ronny and father are in a terrible train accident, leaving Derek as the only one left in his family. He lives with his uncle and then miraculously Ronny shows back up, but he seems off and acts strange. Derek must figure out what is going on. City of the Dead had a good amount of creepy […]

Book View: Wild River

Book View: Wild River

Wild River is a thrilling book about a pair of brothers, Ryan and Tanner, who set out on a camping trip, but an accident happens, leaving the older brother Tanner unconscious.  It is up to Ryan to seek help, but he doesn’t know much about where he is or really about anything when it comes to nature. He must step up or possible lose his brother. A short chapter book, this book really captures your attention and brings a regular kid to becoming a hero. I love stories like this and I think they inspire young people to be better […]

Book View: Night of the Twi..

Book View: Night of the Twisters

Living in tornado alley made Night of the Twisters a really intense read. I loved the realistic way that the storm was portrayed and the conflict of an older brother realizes how much he loves his baby brother after the disaster hits. I love that this book deals with both the during and aftermath of a tornado. I’ve never had to experience one before and it’s scary to think how deadly and destructive they are. I think this gives readers a quick look into what has happened to several over the years when it comes to twisters and tornadoes. Night […]

Book View: A Dog Called Homeless

A Dog Called Homeless is bound to be a favorite of any reader. Nominated for our state award, I dug into this book one weekend and couldn’t put it down. Cally starts to see her mother starting on the anniversary of her death, but no one will listen to her. She ends up stopping talking all together, but still sees her mother and now a dog, but a real one, one that looks homeless. There’s so much happening in this book, the family has to move to an apartment and Cally befriends a mostly deaf, mostly blind boy who she […]
