Let’s Chat: Thinking about Blog Security

If you are like me, thoughts of blog security is probably somewhere towards the bottom of the “I really should pay close attention to” list. We, as bloggers, have much more important things to worry about. Getting books read. Making posts. You know, day to day operations type stuff. And while, blog security may not be on the top of my ever growing to do list, it is something we all need to be paying close attention to. Let me tell you a quick story. In the blogging world, most of you won’t know this, but a few weeks ago, […]

Let’s Chat: Reviewing Fatigue

Lately, I have been feeling a bit off. A funk of sorts has settled in. For the longest time, I have been trying to figure out who or even what the true culprit is. Is it me? Is it the books I am reading? Maybe there is no real issue. Maybe I am just in a reading funk, and trying to make myself think that there is something bigger going on to make myself feel better. As months of the funk has come and gone, I have started to notice a trend. Despite how much I loved / hated / […]

Lessons Learned from Switch..

For last few weeks, I have been discussing my experience in switching to WordPress. While the switch has had a few hiccups along the way, I am in love with all that I can do with WordPress. But what makes WordPress truly special is the plugins. It is important to note, not all WordPress plugins are created equally. Before you go crazy installing plugins, do a little research and make sure you know exactly what the plugin is for. They can cause havoc to your site if you are not careful. Favorite WordPress Plugins UBB (Ultimate Book Blogger) Cost: $35 […]

Lessons Learned from Switch..

Last week, I discussed some of the early lessons I learned during the set up process for WordPress. This week, I am back discussing more lessons. Lessons learned from switching to WordPress… and possibly a checklist of sorts for those wanting to switch   Lesson Four: Importing Like most bloggers, I made the switch from Blogger / Blogspot. When the switch began, The Book Monsters had 1559 posts. Of the 1559, 1516 posts had published and 50 posts where either scheduled or templates of sorts. In my eagerness to make the switch and while waiting for the domain transfer, we […]

Lessons Learned from Switch..

At this time, and probably not in the future either, I will not be doing a tutorial on how to make the switch. There are plenty of tutorials out there on how to switch from Blogger to WordPress. Some are really good. Some, you are really better off ignoring. If you are really, really not tech savvy, you are probably better off just hiring someone to do it for you. Is it worth the money? Depends on your tech savvy level. For me, it would have been a waste of money. But could have lessened some of my headaches during […]

Let’s Chat: WordPress..

By now, you have probably noticed that The Book Monsters have taken the plunge from Blogger to WordPress. I would love, love to say that it was the smoothest transition ever. That we had zero problems and that I could do it again in sleep if I had to. I could, but then, I would be lying… at least a little bit. Why We Switched: Deciding to make the switch wasn't a hard decision for me. Actually, I have been trying to talk Kristen into letting us switch for over a year now, but with the unknown comes the unknown. […]

Let’s Chat: Why We Blog…

As far as blogging goes, Kristen and I have been around the block a few times. Both of us started back in 2009. Which means, as far as most YA book bloggers go, we are pretty old. Not in actual age, of course, but rather blog years. Lately, though, I have started to wonder: why do we blog? Okay, maybe I know why we do it. But what keeps us going? That is a question that I have been wrestling with for quite some time. My answer may change from day to day, but the three basics stay the same. […]

Finding the “Perfect&..

For the past almost two years, e-books have begun taking over the majority of my book collection. It's not that I do not love physical books any longer, but rather I love the convenience of being able to have multiple books constantly at my disposal. Over the years, my e-readers have evolved: from the 2nd generation Kindle to the Kindle Fire, and now to my Nexus 7. While I adore my latest reader, the Kindle Fire, I discovered that I needed more from it, mainly space. Unfortuntely, the Kindle Fire is locked down to only 8gb of memory. While in […]
