Lovable ne'er-do-well Delilah Dirk has travelled to Japan, Indonesia, France, and even the New World. Using the skills she's picked up on the way, Delilah's adventures continue as she plots to rob a rich and corrupt Sultan in Constantinople. With the aid of her flying boat and her newfound friend, Selim, she evades the Sultan's guards, leaves angry pirates in the dust, and fights her way through the countryside. For Delilah, one adventure leads to the next in this thrilling and funny installment in her exciting life.
A little bit Tintin, a little bit Indiana Jones, Delilah Dirk is a great pick for any reader looking for a smart and foolhardy heroine...and globetrotting adventures.
Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant is one of my most anticipated graphic novels this year. I love high adventure set in historical settings, especially when it involves kick-butt female leads. Delilah is an interesting character, dressing a little more provocative than women during her time, so she has more freedom when fighting. Selim meets her in an interrogation but ends up being saved by her when she escapes and he is about to lose his life.
I loved the part of this book where Selim finds a new home, but after a time ends up leaving to join Delilah again, wanting a life of adventure. Selim was a good side kick, a little more down to earth and traditional in his manner, where Delilah was brash, daring and unafraid. The illustrations in this novel were stunning and I loved the many action scenes that took place throughout the novel.
Final Verdict: I'm looking forward to seeing more of Delilah's adventures. A fantastic graphic novel full of adventure and friendship.
