Graphic Novel Review: Sleeping Beauty

Graphic Novel Review: Sleeping BeautySleeping Beauty by Martin Powell

Once upon a time, an evil fairy cursed a young princess. On her fifteenth birthday, the princess pricked her finger on a spindle and fell into a magical sleep. Only the bravest soul will be able to awaken her.

We all know the story of Sleeping Beauty, but I loved the small twists to the tale that this graphic novel rendition spun to keep it new and interesting. The drawings were incredible unique and drew my eye when I first looked at it. I can only compare it to that of Tim Burton. The characters have big eyes and the overall feel of the graphic novel is darker.I absolutely enjoyed reading the History of Sleeping Beauty at the end of the book as well as glancing through the discussion questions and writing prompts that were to go along with the book. Another great book to use in elementary schools and elementary school libraries.

  1. I’m working my way through this fairy tale series. I haven’t read this one but they are gorgeous aren’t they? Rapunzel has been my favourite so far, will have to look out for this one.

I haven’t seen these before. But I love fairy tale retellings in all forms so going to have to look for it while out Christmas shopping. Thanks for sharing!

Ohh this one sounds cool! I haven’t done a lot of graphic novel reading. I don’t why because I really enjoyed the last one I read. Will keep my eyes open for this!

I love Sleeping Beauty. I also love reading different versions and looking at different illustrations. This one would be a good one to look at.
