Book Review: Across a Star-..

Book Review: Across a Star-Swept Sea

Ever since I finished For Darkness Shows the Stars, I have been on pins and needles awaiting to see what would happen next. With Across a Star-Swept Sea, my initial thought was I was getting a direct sequel, but sadly, that wasn't to be the case. Across a Star-Swept Sea takes place in the same world as For Darkness Shows the Stars, but not the same place. Think of it along the lines of Kristin Cashore's Graceling Realm series. Same world. Just in different places with new characters. At first, this was a little confusing for me. The switching of […]

Book Review: For Darkness S..

Book Review: For Darkness Shows the Stars

Heartbreakingly beautiful… unforgettable love story… this is what came to mind as I finished the last pages of one of the most stand out books for 2012. For Darkness Shows the Stars tells the story of Elliot and her childhood friend, Kai. They live in a changed world. A world that is paying the price for past generations who believed in the advancing of science. For Darkness Shows the Stars is loosely based on Jane Austen's Persuasion. Unlike previous remakes, I have nothing to base For Darkness Shows the Stars on. I have never read, nor was I that familiar […]

Book Review: Ascendant

Book Review: Ascendant

After falling in love with Rampant, the first novel in the series, I just HAD to read the next novel. Ascendant early on has the same feeling as Rampant. Girl power, a little romance, and the always fabulous killer unicorns. But don't let that fool you… Ascendant has a darker side. In a lot of ways, I think of this series (at least thus far) as two parts to a coin. Rampant is kick butt and takes names side. The "Yes, I am a unicorn hunter. Wanna make something of it?" type novel. In contrast, Ascendant is more the effects of […]

Book View: Rampant

Short and Sweet: For the longest time, I avoided Rampant. Come on… killer unicorns? But once I sat down with it, I could not pull myself away. Peterfreund's writing style is wonderful. It flows easily. The characters are full of life. And there is just enough humor to make everything work. Peterfreund really makes you want to believe that there are unicorns amoungst us.. whether they be the killer kind or not is up to you.  Final Verdict: This novel rocks! With strong female characters, plenty of twist and turns, and loads of action, you will not want to put Rampant down until the […]

Book Review: Rampant

Book Review: Rampant

Yes, it's true, there are killer unicorns! A small force of virgin girls from a long line of hunters must set out to kill them. I really loved this kick-butt book of a girl who really doesn't want to hunt unicorns but whose mother forces her into it. There were some great twists and gory battles throughout this book along with even a little bit of romance. This is definitely a series I will be looking forward to more of. I really liked Astrid, first of all – what a cool name. She had her flaws and she reacted to […]
