Book Review: A Mutiny in Time

My students are all fans of 39 clues, so I was excited to hear that Scholastic was taking up another project of that ilk. This time, with time traveling! And some great authors like James Dashner on board, I couldn't wait to read this first book.   There's something wonderful about books that feature a boy and girl as best friends embarking on an adventure. Book Review: The Scorch Trials

The Scorch Trials starts with a theatrical beginning, one that blew me away with the mind-blowing and gore level I really didn't anticipate. What happens at the beginning of the novel sets the stage for a gruesome addition to the Maze Runner series. Thomas and his gang think that they are saved. But boy are they wrong. And WICKED has definitely topped themselves this time. One thing that I loved about The Maze Runner was the gore and shock-value that Dashner every so lovingly included. It is one of the main reasons why I adored that novel in the first place. And if you are like me, then you […]

Book View: The Maze Runner

Short & Sweet: The Maze Runner is an interesting addition to the growing YA dystopian genre. The novel itself is unique due to it clearly having dystopian elements, but never really revealing the truth behind what is going on. While I admit at times I found this quite fascinating, other times… I was just frustrated. Dashner is a very skillful writer who definitely captured my attention. And I am looking forward to discovering more about this unique world. Final Verdict: The Maze Runner definitely had some major aces up its sleeve. Did I like all of them? No. But I […]
