Book Review: The Empty Grave – Blog Tour & Giveaway

Find it: Amazon, B&N, iBooks, TBD, Goodreads Additional Books in the Series: THE SCREAMING STAIRCASE , THE WHISPERING SKULL , THE HOLLOW BOY, THE CREEPING SHADOW. I’ve loved this series from the first book, which I first encountered when I was a CYBILS judge the year it won. It was a clear winner, so far reaching above any book I had read that year. I just love the mix of great characters, the absolutely stunning setting of London with ghosts, and some of the more horrific scenes that keep me coming back. While there are some terribly horrific moments, there’s lots of humor and banter, […]

Book Review: The Whispering..

Book Review: The Whispering Skull

The Whispering Skull was a book I had been anticipating since I read the first book in the series last year. Following Lucy, George and Lockwood on their adventures, this book jumps right into the action that I loved of the last book. This time, George’s lack of research puts them in a bit of a spot and they find their nemesis Fittes agents on the scene and basically save them. Book Review: The Screaming ..

Book Review: The Screaming Staircase

The Screaming Staircase caught my eye months ago when I saw it on Netgalley and was happy to find the time to sit and read on my Kindle for once. I tend towards physical books still but was dying to read this one. The beginning of The Screaming Staircase puts the reader right into the thick of the story, where Lucy and Anthony are currently trying not to get themselves killed by a ghost while missing some very important equipment. I was drawn in from the first page and couldn't wait for the world building, something that did not disappoint. […]

Book View: The Golem’s Eye

Short & Sweet: The second in the series, The Golem's Eye takes place just a little after the first book and Nathanial and Bartimaeus are reunited quickly. Not only does it follow the wizard and the demon, but also Kitty, a girl who is a part of the resistance. I really love Kitty's strength of character and Bartimaeus' witty humor. Nathanial still needs some work on his moral attitude, but I have high hopes for him in the next book. The narration was fantastic as usual and really brought the story along nicely.  Final Verdict: A fantastic sequel with more intrigue and fantasy. […]

Book View: The Amulet of Sa..

Book View: The Amulet of Samarkand

Short & Sweet: I must first comment on the fantastic narration of this novel, told from two points of view and the audiobook did a fantastic job with capturing the two characters. Of the two, I found myself enjoying Bartimaeus the most, the djinni who has been summoned by Nathaniel to aide him in getting revenge on a fellow magician. Unfortunately, this turns out for the worst and a small prank ends up putting Nathaniel and all he loves in grave danger. I love this book, reminding me a bit of a Harry Potter world – the ones with […]
