Book Review: Shadow Study

Shadow Study is another novel set in Snyder’s beautiful and enchanting world. Revisiting the characters of Yelena and Valek, I was excited to dive in and start the adventure. For all of the charms of the world, I felt a bit disconnected at first and I think that stems from the varying perspectives. Instead of just having the plot from one viewpoint, it shows both of our characters. I understand why, the characters are separated for most of the book, but for some reason I felt a disconnect for a while due to where the view point stopped and the […]

Book Review: Taste of Darkn..

Book Review: Taste of Darkness

Taste of Darkness is the third book in the Healer series by one of my favorite authors Maria V. Snyder. I read the first book ages ago and since I rejoined audible, decided it was time to check out the next two on audio. I didn’t review the second since Kate previously had done an awesome job with her review of Scent of Magic. To break it down, we’re pretty much at the end of the series, so I don’t want to get to spoiler filled, but a lot has happened so far. Often Avry is separated from Kerrick during […]

Book Review: Storm Watcher

Book Review: Storm Watcher

Maria V. Snyder is one of my favorite and highly recommended authors, so when I heard about Storm Watcher, I was excited to see what her first middle grade fiction would be like. Storm Watcher is about Luke Riley, who feels responsible for his mother’s death, who was killed in a storm while driving to pick him up because of his fear of bad weather. Luke’s father is one of the best search and rescue teams, with their oldest bloodhound dog. When Luke decides he would rather have a different kind of dog, his father is upset. Both of his […]

Book Review: Scent of Magic

Book Review: Scent of Magic

By this point, Maria V. Snyder can almost do no wrong. Having enjoyed Touch of Power, I was really excited to be able to get back into this world and see what Snyder had in store for Kerrick and Avry. And Scent of Magic was everything I hoped the second installment of the Healer series would be.  Touch of Power ends with our lovers coming to together. Finding their common bond, and hoping to defeat the bad guy. Scent of Magic starts with our lovers parting. As much as I wanted more of Avry and Kerrick, it made sense to […]

Double Monster Review: Touch of Power

I've been a huge fan of Maria's since first laying my hands on Poison Study and have since then taken a road trip just to meet her, read everything she's written and simply just love her work. So, when I heard about this new series, I was psyched. I loved her dystopian but was aching for more fantasy since the end of the Glass series. When this one came out on Netgalley, I was excited and then Kate read it and said "You will love this book" and so I picked it up as soon as possible. I could not […]

Book Review: Outside In

Book Review: Outside In

Ever since I finished the last page of Inside Out last year, I have been desperately awaiting Outside In and the return of the infamous "Pipe Queen." Inside Out, the first novel of the series, followed Trella as she led a rebellion against the overbearing Uppers. In the second novel, Outside In, Trella is back and trying to pick up the pieces of her society. However, Trella is not ready to lead. She prefers to give her power to the Committee, a mishmash group who succeeds only at arguing and getting nothing done. How will Trella overcome this obstacle while trying […]

Book View: Poison Study

Book View: Poison Study

Short & Sweet: Poison Study is beautiful in its simplicity. The world… the characters… the plot… all of it ties together to compliment each other in a way that is ingenious. Yelena is the type of character that only comes around every so often. Brave, smart, courageous… there are too many words that come to mind when thinking of her. And Yalek… only one word is needed… yum. Seriously, where can I find a guy that like? Final Verdict: Amazing novel! If you have not read Poison Study yet, you need to fix that immediately. The novel combines outstanding characters that […]

Book View: Magic Study

Short & Sweet: To be honest, I have a love / hate relationship with Magic Study. On one hand, I love it due to seeing more of Yelena, how her character develops, and the old friends again. But I had a harder time being enthralled with this novel compared to the previous one. Maybe it was the lack of action or the lack, for the most part, of Valek… I am not completely sure.   Final Verdict: Magic Study was definitely an enjoyable read. It suffered from some plot drags due to focusing mainly on Yelena's past. While I enjoyed learning more about her […]
