Graphic Novel Review: Something New: Tales from a Makeshift Bride

Something New: Tales from a Makeshift Bride brought me back to my own thoughts of my own wedding. As much as I don’t usual read memoirs, I love them in graphic format and have enjoyed Knisley’s other books. I didn’t go into as much planning as Lucy did but it was lovely to see another glimpse into a wedding being planned. I love the way she mixed the format of graphic novel, involved some actual photos and really sectioned the book well. She involved traditions along with what she personally chose for her own wedding. I absolutely loved the moments with […]

Graphic Novel Review: Demon..

Graphic Novel Review: Demon Volume 1

What if you just wanted to commit suicide? But every time you did, you woke up alive… That is what is happening to Jimmy Yee. But there’s more to it than that. The artwork is pretty awesome and the story is very shocking in many ways. I felt disconcertingly involved in the story. A bit like watching a train wreck over and over again. It’s definitely a very adult book and one I’m curious as to what will happen in the follow volumes. Verdict: Overall, something that you must read and decide if you enjoy yourself. It’s not my typical […]

Graphic Novel Review: Paper..

Graphic Novel Review: Paper Girls Vol. 1

Paper Girls Vol. 1 puts us in the 1980s, from the viewpoint of a group of girls that deliver papers. It’s Halloween night and all the weirdos are out, but so are they – doing their job of delivering papers. Only something weird happens, the group splits in two with walkie-talkies and one gets jumped and their walkie-talkie taken. They track the guys to a house and into a basement that has something out of this world in the basement, covered by a sheet. What happens next is just nutty. I’m not really sure what’s going on and I kind […]

Graphic Novel Review: We Stand on Guard Volume 1

We Stand on Guard is as unique as Brian’s other graphic novels. Taking place in the future, where Canada and the US are engaged in war, a band of rebels decide to stand against them. Amber is our main character and I just love her right away. There’s a bit of backstory, lots of action and violence right off the bat and some politics thrown in. I love the visuals and the plot and all of the characters already. I just am kicking myself for starting this series right when it came out. I usually push through graphic novels rather […]

Graphic Novel Review: Wires and Nerves volume 1

Wires and Nerves Volume 1 takes place after Winter, where Cinder is trying to move over power to the people in Luna, but is dealing with rogue wolves that have escaped. Iko volunteers to try to track them down, figuring she’s the best person for the job. There’s a ton of action and I loved seeing our usual gang in the aftermath of Winter. Iko’s adventures lead her to each group and we get a peak at what life is like for them. The only downside is I wasn’t in love with the illustrations. They’re good, they just didn’t really pop […]

Fable Comics Blog Tour: The Crow and the Pitcher

I’m here today as part of the Fable Comics blog tour! I’m excited to share with you one of the stories within this wonderful graphic novel collection of different fables told by different author/illustrators. The Crow and the Pitcher is written and illustrated by Simone Lia. One of Aesop’s fables, it features a crow who seems to know the answers to many questions. Even when he has his own problem to solve (he’s thirsty and needs water but cannot get into a pitcher), he gets back up and finds a solution. I love that the moral of the story is […]

Graphic Novel Review: Honor..

Graphic Novel Review: Honor Girl

I do not think I could ever be as brave as Maggie Thrash, who has literally laid bare her soul in this graphic novel. A glimpse into first loves, coming to terms with possibly being gay, and the change a child into adolescence, Honor Girl really packs a lot into a  well crafted graphic novel. It’s seems Maggie is about my age because I obsessed over Backstreet Boys, while trying not to seem too into them at the same time. I went away to camp a couple of times, not an all-girls camp but I have found memories all the same. […]

Graphic Novel Review: Little Robot + Giveaway

I’m so excited to be apart of the tour of Ben Hatke’s Little Robot. I love graphic novels and especially love Ben’s illustrations! Check out the list of tour stops over at Macmillan Kids. Little Robot is the story of a girl who is good with fixing things. She’s left alone at home frequently and runs off to the junkyard to see what she can find there. One day, she finds a robot there and quickly befriends him. They have their difficulties as the robot realizes they are different and she even locks him in a car so that she can see […]
