Manga Review: Gate 7 Volume 1

Gate 7 is a series that excited me since I found out that Clamp was writing it. The first in a new fantasy manga series, the main character is a visiting tourist named Chikahito who finds himself transported with three strangers into what looks to be another world. Unsure of why he has traveled with them, they decide to erase him memories, only to be unable to.  Hana is a strange young girl who seems to taken a liking to Chikahito and even gives him a kiss before he leaves to return home from Kyoto. Months later Chikahito finds himself going to school […]

Manga Review: Amazing Agent Jennifer Volume 2

Taking off right after the cliffhanger of the first volume, Amazing Agent Jennifer Volume 2 starts with action, as Jennifer is questioned and almost killed. What she discovers is that the assassination of the head of Bruckenstein was planned, and Agent L was involved in the plot. What she doesn't understand is why, but she realizes she must do the right thing and turn him in.  Almost stubbornly so, Jennifer is all about the mission and L has broken protocol. Even if that means he did it for a future for the two of them, away from the spy business. There […]

Manga Review: Amazing Agent Jennifer Volume 1

I had no idea when I picked up Amazing Agent Jennifer Volume 1 that I had found a hidden gem. Not having read the other series about Luna, I was glad it was a prequel instead of a sequel series. I will definitely look into that series next though. Jennifer is an overachieving student whose father is overbearing and will not even let her take a few extra college courses so she can have a wider variety. After a heated argument with her father, she is approached by The Agency as a candidate for their spy program. With the prospect of […]

Manga Review: Arcana Vol 4

Manga Review: Arcana Vol 4

Things are starting to heat up in this manga series Arcana. With Volume 4, we find Inez starting to wonder about her feelings for Yulan and Kyrette. A little more is revealed about their past and curiousity as to why someone would trap themselves in a preteen girl's body. Yulan leaves Inez when she is in most need, but she does not question what happened and reamins loyal to Yulan. Yulan is at a constant struggle in this book and is forever unreadable. I'm not sure yet what his past is and why he is doing as he is. Kyrette […]

Manga Review: Arcana Vol 3

Taking off in the realm of Elves, Arcana Vol 3 finishes off the adventure of saving Inez from capture, along with her companions. The elf who has put his daughter under a spell finds that he must reverse the spell or lose his daughter forever. Although as easy as it sounds, there is conflict and Inez parts with Reana still not awakened, but no longer under the care of her father but her dear beloved.  Inez starts to struggle with her feelings for Yulan and someone from her past puts her into a dream sleep that reveals more about her […]

Manga Review: Arcana Vol 2

Manga Review: Arcana Vol 2

I'm starting to fall more in love with this manga series. Inez is a lovable character who has naivity but is starting to smarten up, just a little bit. I love the cute little Nyama creatures that pop up in the first part of the graphic novel. Missing her dog, Inez convinces one to come along with them to the land of Elves and names it Mong, the only word the Nyama says.  Kryette is a dark haired man who has been following Inez and Yulan and soon falls into their company, whether they want him to or not. His […]

Manga Review: Arcana Vol 1

Manga Review: Arcana Vol 1

The first thing I noticed about this series was the somewhat old school illustrations, where the men seem prettier than the women. Although I wasn't a fan of the graphics right off, I felt myself getting used to is as I read on. I can't seem to resist a high fantasy when it comes to manga. I love the aspect of Inez being able to communicate with animals, especially her loving dog who is more than what he seems. The sense of adventure excites me for future volumes of this book. I know that Inez has quite some growing to do […]

Manga Review: Stand by Youth Volume 1

Plot: Hyungmo is a smart guy, but seems to have the worst luck when it comes to exams. He does so terrible, he has to attend prep classes so that he can do better the next time. Things aren't that simple as he's placed in a class with a bunch of ruffians, sidetracked by a beautiful girl and an old friend enrolls in his classes, distracting him even further. Will Hyungmo be able to pass his classes and move on to college. Or at least get the girl? This first volume ended on a bit of a cliffhanger and has […]
