Book View: The Blood of Olympus

The Blood of Olympus is the last in the series, one that I didn’t think I could love more than Percy Jackson, but I do. I loved seeing the characters grow and the budding romances build up. The last volume has lots of adventure, peril and characterization that really pulls you in. I’m always surprised at the ease in which I can jump back into this world after a year or so after the last book in the series. The dialogue is witty and humorous and I love the unique characters and settings. All lovers of mythology and adventure should […]

Graphic Novel Review: Gaiji..

Graphic Novel Review: Gaijin

Gaijin was one of my favorite graphic novels I read for the CYBILs award panel. Taking place during World War II, it’s from the perspective of a half-Japanese teenager who is forced from his home with his mother to live in an internment camp. Suffering from bullying by the other teens in the camp, Koji finds himself trying to fit into the gang and getting into even more trouble. His mother is doing her hardest to stay strong for their family, but Koji seems to think that the men in the camp are taking advantage of her and says some […]

Book Review: Killer Instinct

Killer Instict is the second book in The Naturals series, following Cassie, a girl who can profile people with ease. Part of a group of teenagers that the FBI has found and gathered together, she helps solve different crimes, especially those involving serial killers. Her own past with her mother disappearing via a serial killer brings the topic close at hand. Killer Instinct involves a copycat serial killer, one that is copying Dean’s father. Dean is one of Cassie’s love interests, who pushes back on her interest in him because he struggles with who he is. Worried he could turn […]

Book Review: This Shattered..

Book Review: This Shattered World

Taking place shortly after the events of These Broken Stars, This Shattered World introduces us to a new world and a new set of characters. I had pretty high hopes for This Shattered World going into it. I knew this time around there would be little to no Lilac and Tarver, which was fine with me. But I was really curious to see how everything would tie together from These Broken Stars. This Shattered World starts off, pacing wise, just like These Broken Stars. The plot begins by heavily focusing on our characters. Their individual stories told via dual POVs. […]

Book Conversation: Stitching Snow

Kristen and I love to talk about books with each other. What she is reading. What I am reading. What we think the other needs to be reading. When we both are reading or have read the same book, that is when the fun really happens. These are our book conversations…   Kristen: What do you want to talk about first? Plot, characters… Kate: Hmm Kristen: First off, I know Stitching Snow will get compared to Cinder a lot, but I felt like it was way different. Kate: Oh, I know it will. But at least they were different fairy […]

Once the aliens made contact, there was no going back. Cara Sweeney, to her surprise, has been given the honor of taking part in the first exchange program with L’eihr, an alien people that have been recently discovered. As part of this exchange program, Cara and a select few other teens from across the planet will play host to the L’eihr teens. After the first exchange phase is complete, the teens will switch. Book Review: These Broken S..

Book Review: These Broken Stars

At first glance, These Broken Stars looked to be just another space romance. A retelling of Titanic even. However, despite the less than stellar feelings this summary was giving me, These Broken Stars had one advantage that I knew would make me read this book no matter what… Meagan Spooner. I am not the type of person who will always read everything and anything as long as it is by X author. However, Meagan Spooner has proven to me how incredibly talented she is, and I knew that even if the book was a glorified retelling of Titanic, there would […]
