Graphic Novel Review: Something New: Tales from a Makeshift Bride

Something New: Tales from a Makeshift Bride brought me back to my own thoughts of my own wedding. As much as I don’t usual read memoirs, I love them in graphic format and have enjoyed Knisley’s other books. I didn’t go into as much planning as Lucy did but it was lovely to see another glimpse into a wedding being planned. I love the way she mixed the format of graphic novel, involved some actual photos and really sectioned the book well. She involved traditions along with what she personally chose for her own wedding. I absolutely loved the moments with […]

Graphic Novel Review: Demon..

Graphic Novel Review: Demon Volume 1

What if you just wanted to commit suicide? But every time you did, you woke up alive… That is what is happening to Jimmy Yee. But there’s more to it than that. The artwork is pretty awesome and the story is very shocking in many ways. I felt disconcertingly involved in the story. A bit like watching a train wreck over and over again. It’s definitely a very adult book and one I’m curious as to what will happen in the follow volumes. Verdict: Overall, something that you must read and decide if you enjoy yourself. It’s not my typical […]

Graphic Novel Review: Bera the One-Headed Troll

Bera has always lived alone and kept to herself on her island. When she finds the mermaids playing with a baby, she steps in and saved the child, not knowing it will send her on the biggest adventure of her life. Bera normally is just a gardener, who grows pumpkins, but now she must find where the baby came from and get her back there. Bera knows she cannot do it alone and seeks out the heroes of the stories she has heard. I became really engrossed in this world, I love how each step made Bera stronger and it […]

Graphic Novel Review: Little Robot + Giveaway

I’m so excited to be apart of the tour of Ben Hatke’s Little Robot. I love graphic novels and especially love Ben’s illustrations! Check out the list of tour stops over at Macmillan Kids. Little Robot is the story of a girl who is good with fixing things. She’s left alone at home frequently and runs off to the junkyard to see what she can find there. One day, she finds a robot there and quickly befriends him. They have their difficulties as the robot realizes they are different and she even locks him in a car so that she can see […]

Graphic Novel Review: Last ..

Graphic Novel Review: Last of the Sandwalkers

Last of the Sandwalkers surprised me as a graphic novel. I’m not overly fond of bugs, but this story really brought them into the light. Lucy is a scientist at heart and sets off on journey to find if there are more beetles in the world around them. Her community is not fond of scientists though and she finds that the overseer of their journey tries to sabotage them from finding their way home, while stealing their discovery of large bones in the sand. They end up on their own and must find their way back. Luckily, the journal their overseer […]

Graphic Novel Review: The D..

Graphic Novel Review: The Divine

The Divine is a rather dark graphic novel mixing the depths of war-ravaged lands with paranormal and fantastical elements. Inspired by a photograph of a set of 12 year old twins smoking a cigar, the Htoo twins were known for having lead an army against the Burmese who took their homes away. Taking this idea and pushing further into the realms of magic and fantasy, The Divine is a story of those children who have powers that can help them rid their country of unwanteds for better or worse it is unknown. Our main character is a man named Mark who is unsure whether […]

Graphic Novel Review: In Real Life

In Real Life is a gorgeously drawn graphic novel. Jen Wang does a fantastic job and I loved that they made Anda a bit overweight in her character design. I loved Anda as a character, she’s a teen who wants to belong and finds an gaming group of girls that makes her feel pretty awesome. The only problem is that this group is dedicated to getting rid of farming characters. It’s bad for the game, but when Anda gets to know one of the farmer’s, she realizes that these people are doing it for a job and in unfair circumstances. […]
