Book Review: The Thief and the Sword

The Thief and the Sword is the second book in the graphic novel series Cleopatra in Space. Cleo has time traveled into a strange space atmosphere and basically saved the day in the first book. She’s become somewhat of a celebrity as she is the center of a prophecy that she will basically save the world from destruction. Or worlds? I like the mix of student life with the actual overlying plot. Cleo has a friend named Akila who is a bit jealous of her popularity, especially when the dance she coordinated is ruined by a thief. Cleo runs off after […]

Graphic Novel Review: The Lost Boy

When I received The Lost Boy in the mail, I knew I had to read it that week. A fantasy graphic novel that was so pleasing to the eye, I could not resist diving into it, pushing a lot of books on my list. I was not disappointed and from the first page was captured by the story. Nate has just moved into town and finds a tape recorder under the floorboards of his new room. The story told on this tape is nothing short of fantastical. With the help of a neighbor girl named Tabitha, they delve into the […]

Graphic Novel Review: Tommysaurus Rex

Ely just lost his pet dog and to cheer him up, his parents send him to his grandfather's farm. There, his grandfather gives him a toy dinosaur. Sadly, the town bully swipes it from him and he finds himself with one less thing to cheer him up. Not only that, but working on a farm is a lot less fun than Ely first thought.  When he's allowed to explore, he finds a cave with a real Tyrannosaurus Rex, only he seems to be more friendly than he should be. In fact, he acts just like his old dog Tommy. He […]

At the orphanage she is taken to, Phoebe meets five other kids whose parents were killed in the same accident. Together, they must find out why their parents were killed and how to save the world. A fast-paced sci-fi adventure, The Silver Six is a graphic novel that will have readers turning page after page. Characters: Phoebe is a smart […]

Graphic Novel Review: Drama

Graphic Novel Review: Drama

Plot: Callie absolutely loves the theatre, especially musicals. What she learned early on though, was that she couldn’t sing, so she became a part of the set crew. When she meets a set of twin brothers who want to help with the musical, she finds herself falling for one of them and then drama ensues. I am in love with Raina’s beautiful graphic novels. Her books tell a bit of her own past as a drama geek, only adding some twists to the story. The story is well-written and really shows being gay as something that is not that big […]

Graphic Novel Review: Amulet: The Stonekeeper’s Curse

Another fantastic adventure lies in wait for Emily and her family and friends in Amulet The Stonekeeper’s Curse. This series is full of adventure and really sucks you into the story. The full color graphics of the book are stunning. I love the illustrations and the overall feel it gives the story. Definitely will be looking forward to the third one when it comes out. Recommended for 3rd grade and up.
