Book Review: A Wicked Thing

Book Review: A Wicked Thing

Retellings can be such a wonderful thing. Breathing new life into a favorite tale. Answering long held questions. Answering questions you never realized you had. A Wicked Thing held so much potential. Discovering what happened to Aurora after she awoke from true love’s kiss. Did she live happily ever after? We will let you be the judge of that.   The stories don’t always get it right The first thing that hit me with A Wicked Thing was how close, yet how far away it was from the Sleeping Beauty tale we all know. Aurora is awoken by the kiss […]

Graphic Novel Review: The G..

Graphic Novel Review: The Graveyard Book Volumes 1 & 2

The Graveyard Book translates brilliantly into graphic novel format. Perhaps because the author is also a graphic novelist? I read The Graveyard Book several years ago, after it became a Newbery winner. I loved the story and the characters and so when I heard they had redone it in graphic novel format, I could not wait. The illustrations are perfect, setting a dark and dreary landscape in the graveyard and I love the character designs. More realistic and sharp than most graphic novels made for younger readers, I loved the different characters and revisiting the plot in this type of […]

Book Review: Watch Out Hollywood

I had not read the first in this series, so I dove into Watch Out Hollywood without knowing much about Charlie and her friend Marta. When her agent calls her about a role, she cannot wait, only one problem he asked for her friend Marta to audition as well because of her gymnastics background. Being a bit greedy, Charlie tells her that she’s busy with family problems and cannot possibly audition. Even so, Charlie feels guilty and when she finds out Marta cannot afford […]

Book Review: Meridian

Book Review: Meridian

Picking up where Arclight left off, Meridian takes readers on an incredible journey from the beginning to end. The Fade and the people of the Arc, after much deliberation and fighting, have come to an uneasy truce of sorts. While tensions are still running very high, these two groups know that the future of the groups depend on them working together, not against each other. When a new threat appears, it will take everything everyone has to survive. The darkness is coming… Arclight, the first installment of this possible trilogy, blew me away. The concept. The writing. Even the romance. I […]
