Book View: The Pledge

Book View: The Pledge

Short and Sweet: Haunting cover. Languages. Dystopian! The Pledge had all the elements to make this an amazing read. To a certain extent it definitely was, but I think that in my head I had this book going in a completely different direction. More rebellion against the system. So the introduction of the class system being headed by a Queen vs. a Senate or other type group was a real surprise for this book. But that was about it. I figured out the ending probably even before I hit the half way point.   Final Verdict:  The setting and the […]

Book Review: Enchanted Ivy

Book Review: Enchanted Ivy

Sarah Beth Durst is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors of all time. And Enchanted Ivy is a fantastic example of why. Enchanted Ivy centers the tale around Lilly. Her one goal in life? To get into Princeton University. But where as most high schoolers have to pass SATs and admission applications, Lilly's situation is a bit different. She is a legacy. And as a legacy, she must undergo a special test to prove that she has what it takes. Sounds easy right? Think again. When your family is part of the "secret" part of Princeton University, nothing is […]

Book Review: Zombies Vs. Un..

Book Review: Zombies Vs. Unicorns

Stories: There is a diverse and brilliant group of writers in this anthology. Each of the stories amazed me and ranged from love stories to brutal horror stories. I loved each of the stories and it makes me wonder why I don't read more anthologies. Dialogue: The commentary between Justine and Holly was hilarious. I was guffawing like mad and my husband gave me the "You are weird look" as I read this book. Justine was the more brutally honest, competitive commenter – one that rooted hard for the Zombies. Holly was definitely a bit nicer with her comments […]

Book Review: Clockwork Ange..

Book Review: Clockwork Angel

When I first heard that Cassandra Clare was coming out with a prequel to her The Mortal Instrument series, I was a little hesitant about starting the new series. While I can say that I did enjoy the previous series, it overall is not one of my favorites. So when I laid hands on Clockwork Angel, some of my fears carried over. However, it is easy to say that Clockwork Angel far surpasses Ms. Clare's previous work. And I loved every minute of this novel. Clockwork Angel is set in Victorian London, a setting which always pleases me as […]

Book Review: The Clockwork ..

Book Review: The Clockwork Angel

I have to say that this book was so much more awesome than her Mortal Instruments series – to me. And I love that series… so it is really really good. I love the setting of the novel first of – I've always been a huge fan of historical fantasy. The story moved, it had action and danger and some seriously intriguing background that was revealed. I feel that a good story always leaves you with questions and a want for more and that is exactly what this book did for me. It was a fantastic introduction to the world, […]

Book Review: White Cat

Book Review: White Cat

White Cat is a nice edgy, dark read that sucked me into its pages very early on in the novel. Being the first novel that I have read by Black, I was pretty impressed with her writing style. The pages flowed easily and kept my attention. What really intrigued me about this novel is the world that Black created. It is almost an alternative world from what we know… with a little magic sprinkled in. I loved the idea of the Curse Worker. But I am not so sure that I completely understood everything that Black was trying to convey. […]
