Book View: Fair Weather

Short & Sweet: Richard Peck's books are well known to librarians everywhere, but his books rarely seem to be checked out by students at my elementary school. I loved the way this book was written, taking you back to the time period with the setting, characters and even the writing of dialogue within. Readers that are interested in Chicago's past will enjoy this novel. I think Peck's books are fantastic books to share on the topic of historical fiction. I love the way the dialogue reflects the time period, along with the clothing and setting. I also think this is […]

Book View: XVI

Book View: XVI

Short and Sweet: XVI is an intriguing dystopian read which tended to both thrill and confuse me as a reader. On one side, I was fascinated by the world that Karr created. I would be lying if I said it was not a little bit shocked to see sixteen year old girls believing that this is the appropriated age to begin procreation. However, as much as I loved this shock factor, I must admit that I was a little more than lost at times within XVI. Karr beautifully sets up the world that Nina lives in, but I never understood why these […]

Book Review: Eon

Book Review: Eon

As a long time lover of strong female characters, I was instantly drawn to Eon. The cover… the summary.. all of it sounded so promising. In a lot of ways, I admit that it sounded a little too promising to be true. Eon tells the story of a young female who lives as a male in hopes of becoming the chosen Dragon apprentice. In Eon's society, total there are 12 Dragons, one for each of the Chinese zodiacs.. plus the mysterious Mirror Dragon.  Right away, I found Goodman to be a kindred soul. It was like she was reading my […]

Book Review: Bright Young T..

Book Review: Bright Young Things

After reading Anne Godbersen's Luxe series a few years ago, I was a little hesitant going into her new series. But after getting a few chapters in, Bright Young Things began to far exceed my expectations. The tale centers around the young girls: Letty, Cordelia and Astrid. Each vastly different than the other, but with the common goal of making it in the city that never sleeps. Told through alternating points of view, Godbersen details each girl perfectly. From shy Letty to ruthless Cordelia to sweet and sassy Astrid, each girl will steal your heart and have you rooting for […]

Book View: Academy 7

Short & Sweet: Academy 7 is a pure jewel. From the beginning, I was pulled into the vivid worlds that Osterlund created. The tale only got better by the inclusion of multi-faceted characters. Aerin and Dane are easy to relate to, their banter is laugh out loud funny, and their chemistry / budding romance was all that I was hoping it would be and more. Final Verdict: Academy 7 is a fantastic read. As soon as this novel entered into my hands, I do not think it left them till that final page was turned. Full of fantastic characters and a […]
