Book Review: An Ember in the Ashes

An Ember in the Ashes totally blew me away. I had this on my pile from a swap and had heard good things, but didn’t buckle down and read it until I saw that she was coming to Anderson’s bookshop in September. Once I picked the book up, I could not put it down. The book goes between the POV of two characters: Laia, a girl who has lived with her family until her grandparents were brutally murdered and her brother imprisoned for a notebook he had in his possession. Now, she is on the run and ends up with […]

Book View: Audrey, Wait!

Book View: Audrey, Wait!

Short and Sweet: After reading Also Known As a short time ago, I have been dying to get into some of herRobin Benway's other books. One that has been on my TBR pile for a long time was Audrey, Wait! Now, I love music, but for some reason, books and music together rarely works for me. So, I was a little hesitant upon starting Audrey, Wait! For the most part, I got what I was looking for with this read. A quick, no frills, fun read with a little romance and few life lessons mixed in. If was all that […]

Book Review: Immortal City

Book Review: Immortal City

When I first heard of Immortal City, I thought eh, it could be interesting. But once I got the book, reread the blurb, and took a second to think about it, fear set in. Despite my interest and originally being excited to read Immortal City, once I sat down and got ready to read that first page, internally, I was actually preparing myself to be disappointed.   While Reading:   Based on the blurb, Jackson, the resident up and coming guardian angel, did not sound like an MC I was going to like. The parties. The fame. I could already […]

Book View: Ripple

Book View: Ripple

Short and Sweet: Ripple was an entertaining and (often times) fun book to read! Forget mermaids. Forget vampires. Sirens are where it is at. Or at least they would be if we could get more siren books. Although, Ripple features sirens, it was not the siren tale that I was expecting. Not really based on a myth, but rather a curse of sorts. Hubbard really surprised me with her lore. It's completely different.. in a good way.   The problem with Ripple lies mainly with the love triangle. But I am not completely sure I would call it one. Lexi was a […]

Book Review: Across The Universe

Told through dual points of view, Across The Universe is a stunning look at humanity's possible future. Loss of resources. The idea of sustainable life on other planets. And in the not too distant future, this is Amy's life. A young girl whose family signs up for the mission of a lifetime. A mission which will take Amy to places that most people could only dream about. When I first saw the cover of Across The Universe and read the summary, I knew this book had to be mine. Shiny. Dystopian. Outer Space. It had all the elements that my mood […]

Book Review: The Replacement

Wow, it was interesting to read this after I read The Iron King and I was like, okay here's the spin we don't normally see. The book had everything I wanted to find in it – some creepiness, a very supernatural plot, and something that will really set it aside from other faerie books. I definitely recommend this one if you want to see the less pretty side of faerie. Mackie was fantastic. He kind of confirms that nature and nurture do have a role in who you become at the end of it all. Yes, he's a faerie, but […]
