Welcome to another edition of the Monster Report. The Monster Report explores the book happenings of Kate and Kristen. Whether it be what we got in our mailboxes, what books we are currently hiding in, or fun stuff to look forward to this week at The Book Monsters, you can find it here. The Monster Report is inspired by Alea‘s This Week in Books, Tynga’s Stacking the Shelves, and Kathryn at the Book Date‘s It’s Monday, What are you Reading? Also, Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers also host a kidlit version of It’s Monday, What are you Reading?

Read this Week:
So my reading slowed down quite a bit this week mainly because I read so much last week and I was kind of tired of it this week. But also because I was working again at my job as well as trying to get things together for school that starts at the end of this month. I really enjoyed Brokeback Mountain, I love the movie and I have always been curious to read the story that it is based on. I was suprised to see how many direct quotes from this that they put into the movie especially one of my favorites, “I wish I knew how to quit you.” I gave it a 4/5 I just wish it had been longer. Spinning Silver was a really weird book like in the beginning things are talked about in a very vague way and that makes it hard to understand what it is going on, it does start to make more sense the more you read though. I really enjoyed the side characters more than the ‘main’ and I wouldn’t be opposed to reading more books set in this world. This also got 4/5. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before was a reread for me I wanted to reread it before the movie comes out on the 17th. I still really enjoyed it and it is a very fun and quick read, however when I first read it I gave it a 5/5 but on reread I lowered it to a 4/5. There is just a few problematic things that are done and said that made it hard for me to look past.
Kristen and I are buddy reading Legendary and I am listening to Sky in the Deep on audio while at work. I am over halfway through and I am enjoying it which is good because I have heard iffy things about it.

Read this Week:
Well, I didn’t realize I had read 16 books this past week… seriously? I am working on my #NewtsReadathon2018 list and realize I only have 5-6 books left at this point of a list of 30. I also am participating in #25infive readathon – read 25 hours in 5 days, which ends tomorrow (Monday). I really loved Harry Potter: A Journey Through a History of Magic – took me back into HP world. Last Namsara was great just took me forever on audio because I’m off of work and not driving a lot. Wolf Moon was the least favorite of everything I’ve read by Charles de Lint, just didn’t hit me as much as his other stories. I think I prefer his modern fantasy. Thornhill had the creepiest ending, like WTF! I don’t know if it’s a good or bad ending… just creepy! Brazen BLEW ME AWAY! I am not a big nonfiction reader, so graphic nonfiction really gets me to enjoy it and I loved finding out about some ladies in history I had never heard of! Prince and the Dressmaker was such a cute fairy tale and had a great message. The Wicked and the Divine was so messed up and I love it! The latest Riordan does not disappoint (like usual) and I really enjoyed Fairest, which though I have read Fables and Jack of Fables never had read this spinoff series. Those are some highlights… if I went over each book, well that would take ages. 🙂
This week at The Book Monsters, we…
That is all for us this week. So until next week, stay scary Monsters.
