The Monster Report

Welcome to another edition of the Monster Report. The Monster Report explores the book happenings of Jessica and Kristen. Whether it be what we got in our mailboxes, what books we are currently hiding in, or fun stuff to look forward to this week at The Book Monsters, you can find it here. The Monster Report is inspired by Alea‘s This Week in Books, Tynga’s Stacking the Shelves, and Kathryn at the Book Date‘s It’s Monday, What are you Reading? Also, Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers also host a kidlit version of It’s Monday, What are you Reading?

Books added to TBR: None

Read this Week:

This was definitely a slower reading week mainly because we had inventory at work and that sucked up quite a bit of time, also I have been writing A LOT lately. I have finished all of the available volumes of Super Lovers which is sad because now I have to wait. Geekerella was actually a pleasant surprise I thought I wouldn’t enjoy it that much because I am OVER the Cinderella retelling but it was actually really good and the acknowledgments made me cry. It is basically a love letter to fandom and those are some of my favorite kinds of books. I gave it a 5/5. Catching Fire was interesting to say the least, I definitely wasn’t expecting the ending that we got, and if Mocking-jay ends the way I am thinking it might then I WILL RIOT. Still I did really enjoy the book for the most part and gave it 4/5.

Currently Reading:

I am rereading this for like the 5th time because I need it in my life since I am obsessively writing fanfiction at the minute.

Books added to TBR:

Eona (Eon, #2) The Bear and the Nightingale (Winternight Trilogy, #1) While Beauty Slept

Mother Knows Best: A Tale of the Old Witch (Villains Book 5) A Reaper at the Gates (An Ember in the Ashes, #3) Finding Baba Yaga

Read this Week:

When Dimple Met Rishi We Have Always Lived in the Castle Archenemies (Renegades, #2)

Frogkisser! Heart's Blood Who Is AC?

I absolutely adored When Dimple Met Rishi, I don’t read a lot of contemporary books, but this one was really good and felt so honest and true! We Have Always Lives in the Castle was an odd little book that I found quite interesting and a little spooky. Archenemies was so bad-ass and I just love that she stays true to her villain nature despite her romantic interest! Frogkisser was a fun middle grade fairy tale book. Heart’s Blood was a Beauty and the Beast retelling that was so good. I really ought to read Marillier’s books more often!

Currently Reading:

Enna Burning (The Books of Bayern, #2) The Mechanical Mind of John Coggin

This week at The Book Monsters, we…

That is all for us this week. So until next week, stay scary Monsters.

  1. Well now you’ve perked my interest in Geekerella and I’ll need to make sure I have it on my TBR list. I also have The Bear and the Nightingale on my #MustReadin2019 list, so I’m looking forward to getting to that one in the next couple months. Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful reading week!

I have always wanted to read Eon and Eona but never seem to get to them. Lots of other great books here. One of my students had praise for Geekerella and I might have to check that one out as well.

  3. I also loved When Dimple Met Rishi. We Have Always Lived in the Castle was a strange kind of read, but compelling has heck! Fangirl is the only Rainbow Rowell book I adored. I get why you are rereading it. I sure wish I had more time for reading!
