The Monster Report

Welcome to another edition of the Monster Report. The Monster Report explores the book happenings of Jessica and Kristen. Whether it be what we got in our mailboxes, what books we are currently hiding in, or fun stuff to look forward to this week at The Book Monsters, you can find it here. The Monster Report is inspired by Alea‘s This Week in Books, Tynga’s Stacking the Shelves, and Kathryn at the Book Date‘s It’s Monday, What are you Reading? Also, Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers also host a kidlit version of It’s Monday, What are you Reading?

Read this Week:

So hi apparently I didn’t read shit this week lol. But I was mainly focused on getting a new job which I did!!!! <333 So hopefully this coming up week will be better. Muse of Nightmares was pretty good and I really liked exploring Minya’s past and character more. I didn’t really like how wrapped up the ending was though and I wished we had spent more time with certain characters. I gave it a 4/5. Fence Vol 2 was amazing, I am so excited for the next volume but it isn’t coming out until the end of April 🙁 I gave it 5/5.

Read this Week:

Sheets The Mechanical Mind of John Coggin Muse of Nightmares (Strange the Dreamer #2) The Island of Excess Love (Love in the Time of Global Warming, #2) Black Magic Sanction (The Hollows, #8)

Sheets was a cute graphic novel that I actually read on my phone… I need to see if I can get the app for my laptop to make it easier in the future though. I liked the illustrations and the plot was a bit odd but interesting. I finished reading The Mechanical Mind of John Coggin with my library club and wow are there some hard words in that book, even I had to use the dictionary… it was a fun adventure with interesting characters and also a great STEM connection about inventing. Muse of Nightmares I enjoyed but … it wasn’t as good as the first one and I felt like the secondary plot line wasn’t given enough time to brew. The Island of Excess Love was another trippy book – a follow up to her first and both based on greek mythology. Definitely the style of Block and some crazy stuff happening in such a short novel. I ended up listening to Kim Harrison’s next Hollows book – a reread for me but it’s been so long I’ve forgotten almost all of it. Another crazy adventure and more drama.. a loss I was not prepared for but I’m ready to continue with the series and hopefully finish it this year.

Currently Reading:

The Last of the High Kings (New Policeman, #2) The City of Brass (The Daevabad Trilogy, #1)

  1. Congratulations on the new job!! I’ve heard great things about Sheets and hope our local library will soon get our copy. I am really hoping to get some Laini Taylor reading done this year. My daughter has enjoyed her work and it’s time I dive in. Thanks for the shares and have a wonderful reading week!
