The Monster Report

report

Welcome to another edition of the Monster Report. The Monster Report explores the book happenings of Jessica and Kristen. Whether it be what we got in our mailboxes, what books we are currently hiding in, or fun stuff to look forward to this week at The Book Monsters, you can find it here. The Monster Report is inspired by Alea‘s This Week in Books, Tynga’s Stacking the Shelves, and Kathryn at the Book Date‘s It’s Monday, What are you Reading? Also, Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers also host a kidlit version of It’s Monday, What are you Reading?

Read this Week:

So I only read one book this week, but I have excellent reason for that, I was busy packing and moving. We are in our new place now and it is really nice, it is great having more space. There is even space for more bookshelves down the road if I need them which is really exciting. I also had work this week and as soon as I got off work Saturday, I was helping Seth move things which we did till 11 that night and then continued all day yesterday until 7 pm when we finally finished. I have spent the entire morning today unpacking while laundry, furniture and internet people came so it has been pretty hectic, I am getting close to having pretty much everything set up though which is nice. That all being said even though I only read one book this week it was phenomenal and I encourage everyone to read it. Fantasy with high stakes, rebellion and Sapphic girls, it has something for everyone and I gave it 5/5.

Read this Week:

The Midnight Queen (Noctis Magicae, #1) Black Crow, White Snow Entangled

The Eye of the North Dodge & Twist: An Audible Original Drama Conjured

The Midnight Queen was an interesting and very wordy read but in a good way. Definitely took me some time but I loved every second of the book. Magick, England and of course a love interest. 🙂 So I’ve been guiltily piling up my free audible originals and finally got to two of them this week. Black Crow White Snow was a crazy pirate/survival tale which was so cool – plus women are kinda in charge in this world so that is pretty cool. Dodge & Twist was amazingly well done as well and a little sequel kind of to Oliver Twist and I really enjoyed it – especially all the sound effects and different voice actors. Entangled I have been meaning to read for a long time and finally got to it and I really enjoyed this sci-fi adventure. The Eye of the North is a MG novel with some paranormal elements like Krakens and Ice Queens… really crazy adventure and lots of fun characters. Conjured was a book that really swept me away, part fairy tale, part mystery… about a girl who keeps losing her memory, can do magic and is in protective custody of the law for her own safety – only there’s a lot more to the story. Quite an intriguing, mysterious and well done book.

  1. I found myself sucked into We Set the Dark on Fire. I’m going to be interested in seeing what they do with book #2! And I very much enjoyed both The Bridge Home and Other Words for Home. And now I’m off to look up The Eye of the North — sounds so exciting! Have a wonderful reading week, Jessica and Kristen!

  2. Moving house can sure suck up heaps of time and leave you tired as well. Love the books you bought at Scholastic Reading Summit Kristen, especially Other Words For Home.
