The Monster Report

report

Welcome to another edition of the Monster Report. The Monster Report explores the book happenings of Jessica and Kristen. Whether it be what we got in our mailboxes, what books we are currently hiding in, or fun stuff to look forward to this week at The Book Monsters, you can find it here. The Monster Report is inspired by Alea‘s This Week in Books, Tynga’s Stacking the Shelves, and Kathryn at the Book Date‘s It’s Monday, What are you Reading? Also, Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers also host a kidlit version of It’s Monday, What are you Reading?

So this was my first time ever reading  The Perks of being a Wallflower and it was just as amazing as everyone has always said. I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was something that I feel like anyone who went through a really hard time in high school can relate to. There was a plot twist at the very end that had me shook AF. I literally threw the book down and screamed no for a solid minute before I continued to read. I gave it 5/5.

Read this Week:

Batman: Nightwalker (DC Icons, #2) Shades of Magic Vol. 1: The Steel Prince (Shades of Magic - The Steel Prince) The Ice Garden Spectacle Vol. 2 The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air, #2)

The Root of Magic Secondhand Wishes Frostfire Paper Girls Vol. 5 Bad Blood (The Naturals, #4)

Well I had an incredible reading week thanks to the #24in48 Readathon. I even won a prize! Something from Out of Print (it will be a little bit of a surprise!). Batman Nightwalker was an audiobook and I really enjoyed it! I’m enjoying the DC Icons series. The Steel Prince was a great look into the Shades of Magic world in a different era. I really enjoyed it! The Ice Garden was a fun and touching MG with a bit of magic involved. Spectacle v. 2 was beautifully done and still leaves me with a lot of questions so I’ll be looking forward to the next volume. The Wicked King was amazing and full of intrigue, that ending was killer so I’ll be adding the third book to my wish list for sure! The Root of Magic was an interesting sort of MG novel that makes you question what you want from life and what will make you happy. Secondhand Wishes features an interesting character who doesn’t like change and finds some wishing stones but all her wishes seem to end up with strange endings. Frostfire took a while for me to get into, but it ended up being a nice action-filled survival story with ice magic. Paper Girls 5 was a wild ride as usual as timelines seem to keep overlapping and making things worse it seems. Bad Blood – I’m so sad this series is over – I have a fascination with serial killers and these books were action filled rides with great characters and some crazy stories.

  1. I loved The Perks of being a Wallflower so much that as soon as I finished listening to it as an audiobook, I purchased a copy and read it. I’m glad you appreciated it!

I remember reading and loving Wallflower a long time ago. I never did watch the movie, but your post is making me think more about that. So many other great shares, thanks for the post!

  4. I remember really enjoying reading The Perks of being a Wallflower, as well as watching the movie. My 15 year old daughter just read it, as well, so we’re going to have to have a girls’ night movie very soon. I really liked The Wicked King and cannot WAIT for book #3!! I’m also looking forward to reading The Root of Magic and Extraordinary Birds. Thanks for the title shares!
