The Monster Report

Welcome to another edition of the Monster Report. The Monster Report explores the book happenings of Jessica and Kristen. Whether it be what we got in our mailboxes, what books we are currently hiding in, or fun stuff to look forward to this week at The Book Monsters, you can find it here. The Monster Report is inspired by Alea‘s This Week in Books, Tynga’s Stacking the Shelves, and Kathryn at the Book Date‘s It’s Monday, What are you Reading? Also, Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers also host a kidlit version of It’s Monday, What are you Reading?

Books added to TBR: None

Read this Week:

Spirit Bound was a trip and definitely not what I was expecting. Everyone kinda got on my nerves in this one expect for Adrian who I love with my whole heart. I cannot wait to read the last book and finally finish this series. I gave it 4/5. The King of Attolia was so intelligent which is one of my favorite things. The politics and the way the King went about avoiding his attendants and kinda playing everyone was incredible. I gave it 4.5/5

Read this Week:

Giant Days Vol. 10 Onyx & Ivory This Was Our Pact Olivia Twist: Honor Among Thieves (Oliver Twist) Kim Reaper: Vampire Island Vol. 2

Runaways, Vol. 2: Best Friends Forever Dream Boy 11 Birthdays (11 Birthdays, #1) The Selection (The Selection, #1) Carnival of Souls

Wow, 10 books this week! Giant Days v. 10 was amazing as per usual – I really just love this series. Onyx & Ivory read fast for a 500 page book and I really enjoyed the story and characters! This was our Pact is a great middle grade graphic novel – kind of chunky and a great adventurous story. Olivia Twist: Honor Among Thieves is a steampunk graphic novel with a feminist twist on the Oliver Twist tale. I really really loved it. Kim Reaper v. 2 was cute and silly and I just love the illustrations in this graphic novel series. Runaways: Best Friends Forever is such a great spinoff series. I really like where the authors took it and I just really enjoy the illustrations. 11 Birthdays is a cute somewhat fantastical book about a birthday repeating over and over again and bringing two friends back together. The Selection I listened to on audio and I really enjoyed it – so much I’ll be seeking out the sequels soon as I need to know what will happen next! Carnival of Souls was supposed to be the first in a series but there’s no other book and it’s been quite some years, so I’m a little disappointed I won’t be getting any resolution to the story begun in this first book – no cliffhangers but still a lot unanswered and plot left to come.

  1. The Mouse and the Motorcycle was one of my very favorite reads during my childhood. I haven’t read it since then, though. I wonder how I’d feel about it today. And I love The Queen’s Thief series!! I read the first five books this spring and book #6 was supposed to be released in March. But at the last minute, they bumped it forward. Then bumped it forward AGAIN. I can’t believe we now have to wait another year. 11 Birthdays was one of my daughter’s all-time favorite reads. She said she lost count of how many times she read it (from about age 10 to age 13). I’m going to have to check out Olivia Twist: Honor Among Thieves — I read my first steampunk book last year and really got into it, so now my ears perk up every time I hear of another. Thanks for all the shares!
