The Monster Report

Welcome to another edition of the Monster Report. The Monster Report explores the book happenings of Jessica and Kristen. Whether it be what we got in our mailboxes, what books we are currently hiding in, or fun stuff to look forward to this week at The Book Monsters, you can find it here. The Monster Report is inspired by Alea‘s This Week in Books, Tynga’s Stacking the Shelves, and Kathryn at the Book Date‘s It’s Monday, What are you Reading? Also, Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers also host a kidlit version of It’s Monday, What are you Reading?

Books added to TBR: None

Sorry we didn’t post for a bit guys, my Mamaw passed away last week so I had too many things going on.

Read this Week:

Off To Be The Wizard is one of the most fun books that I have ever read. I found myself laughing, gasping, and just having a ton of outside reactions to everything that was going on. It was so intelligently done and I find myself wishing that I could be a wizard in medieval England. I gave it 5/5. I also reread The Song of Achilles cause a couple of my friends wanted to buddy read it with me and I still loved it just as much as I did the first time around 5/5. Girls of Storm and Shadow was insanely disappointing, I really enjoyed the first book last year but this sequel did not seem to be well excuted and I found myself angry and upset throughout most of it. I will read the final book when it comes out and I really hope it can make me fall back in love with the characters since this book made me feel extremely disjointed from them. 2.75/5.

Books added to TBR:

Catwoman, Vol. 1: The Game Escape From Wonderland

Read this Week:

Everless (Everless, #1) A Study In Pink (Sherlock #1) Slayer (Slayer, #1) The Wise Man's Fear (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #2) Bombshells: United, Vol. 1: American Soil Bombshells: United (2017-) Vol. 2: War Bonds

I finished two audiobooks this week – Everless and Slayer. I really enjoyed Everless even though it didn’t have a ton of action and answers until the end of the book. I will definitely be seeking out the sequel. Slayer I enjoyed but I’m not a huge Buffy fan so I felt like it was somewhat more for fans at times… not sure if I was reading that right. There was an original story and I have watched the whole series once so I knew some of Buffy’s story so that helped, but if you know nothing about her, you might not like this book. Sherlock: A Study in Pink was a manga version of the first Sherlock BBC episode and I just loved it. I’ll probably revisit it frequently. The Wise Man’s Fear was so good and so long but yet now I need more and there’s no other continuing book, just a novella about a character and I’ll read that but I need the next volume! Next, I picked up two volumes of Bombshells, each of which contains a very different story and I enjoyed each. I really love the different old style it has and I really love the costumes especially.
