Welcome to another edition of the Monster Report. The Monster Report explores the book happenings of Jessica and Kristen. Whether it be what we got in our mailboxes, what books we are currently hiding in, or fun stuff to look forward to this week at The Book Monsters, you can find it here. The Monster Report is inspired by Alea‘s This Week in Books, Tynga’s Stacking the Shelves, and Kathryn at the Book Date‘s It’s Monday, What are you Reading? Also, Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers also host a kidlit version of It’s Monday, What are you Reading?

The Bookish Life of Nina Hill felt like my life story in many ways. I had a somewhat absent mother growing up and of course the way that Nina loves books is very relatable. The only reason this didn’t get a five stars is because Nina blew someone off cause she wanted to read instead. That went a little too far for me cause you need to know when to rein it in. I gave it 4/5. American Royals was highly addictive and it kept my attention the entire time. I wish I had the sequel already 4/5. Spellbound was my least favorite in this series so far. It just felt nothing really happened and I didn’t find myself really caring about anything that did happen. 3/5.

Read this Week:
Well, I had a great reading week. I was trying to wrap up some March books and start off April strong while I was on Spring Break before our official start of E-learning begins.
Let’s start with audiobooks. The Time Traveler’s Wife was amazing! I wasn’t sure what I was expecting but not such a great read as that… really good and highly suggest it on audio! Word to the Wise, I’m not a big cozy mystery person so this is my second in the series I’ve read about the library girl and it was really creepy with the stalker. And the Ocean was Our Sky was an interesting re-imagining of Moby Dick with a twist… quite an enjoyable and short read. Furyborn I think was confusing on audio and I think I will likely reread it when the series is complete to continue on in the other books, I kept getting confused when the characters switched over. The Princess Diarist was so amazing on audio as its read by Carrie Fisher mostly and I just love hearing her talk again. Plus I never heard some of things about her and Harrison.
Seriously Wicked was such a cute and fun witchy read, I’ll be looking for the rest of the series, I really enjoyed it! The Ten Thousand Doors of January redeemed itself but it sure got dark and depressing for a while and I had to put it down. Sandry’s book was delightful and I am so excited to start more Tamora Pierce books. I just love the way she writes characters. Harley Quinn is always a delightful comic, although I’m starting to run out. Books of Magic is an interesting new Sandman comic and it’s been a while since I dove into the world but I really liked the story. One Piece continued on it’s crazy adventure and I’m sad the library closed before I could get the next volumes in my hot hands.
This week at The Book Monsters, we…
That is all for us this week. So until next week, stay scary Monsters.
