The Monster Report

Welcome to another edition of the Monster Report. The Monster Report explores the book happenings of Jessica and Kristen. Whether it be what we got in our mailboxes, what books we are currently hiding in, or fun stuff to look forward to this week at The Book Monsters, you can find it here. The Monster Report is inspired by Alea‘s This Week in Books, Tynga’s Stacking the Shelves, and Kathryn at the Book Date‘s It’s Monday, What are you Reading? Also, Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers also host a kidlit version of It’s Monday, What are you Reading?

Books added to TBR:

Read this Week:

The Tropic of Serpents was a ton of fun. I really enjoy Lady Trent’s voice and narration. Sometimes it is hard to remember that it is a fictional account since the way it is told seems very real. I gave it 4/5. Chainbreaker and Firestarter completely took over my life. I listened to the audiobooks at work and when I finished Chainbreaker I immediately switched to Firestarter because the cliff hanger was too much to handle. Needless to say I sobbed for five minutes at work when I finished and I love this books so much. I gave Chainbreaker 4.5/5 and Firestarter 5/5. The Dragon Republic was a lot more heavy on war than the first book but I really enjoyed it. I love the struggles that Rin is going through and that it isn’t just glossed over. We also learn a bit more about the Cike as a whole which is very satisfying. I gave it 5/5.

Books added to TBR:

House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City, #1) Ace of Shades (The Shadow Game, #1) Heart of the Moors: An Original Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Novel Honor Bound (The Honors, #2) Prince of Shadows Harley Quinn, Vol. 3: Kiss Kiss Bang Stab

Read this Week:

Karen Memory (Karen Memory, #1) The Case of the Team Spirit (Bad Machinery, #1) Air Awakens (Air Awakens, #1)

Out of the Wild Night Murder of Crows (The Others, #2) Teen Spirit

Karen Memory was a kick butt western – I really enjoyed the audiobook. Bad Machinery was fun, I definitely prefer his Giant Days series though. Air Awakens was tough to get through, I didn’t really like any of the main guy characters and our lady main character needs to do some growing as well. I’d be interested to see if the rest of the series is better. I was intrigued by the magic but it was a slow read besides the ending. Out of the Wild Night was a fun paranormal mystery and a great audio. Murder of Crows is a great continuation of the Others series and I really like the audio. Definitely continuing on in the series. I read Teen Spirit in a day, I just love Francesca Lia Block’s writing and ghost stories are always fun.

Currently Reading:

Vision in Silver (The Others, #3) After You (Me Before You, #2) One Last Shot
